Files sent using FLAMP are often signed using public key encryption. The information being sent is not encrypted – it is simply being proven as authentic and unchanged by anyone other than the person signing the file. One of the core principles of public key encryption is to make public keys widely available, and that is the purpose of this page. Here you will find public keys used to sign files sent using digital radio modes.

The Kleopatra program is the Public Key program most commonly used in ham radio. You’ll find a handy Quick Reference guide on the Resources page of this site.

Public Key Authentication
For ham radio, we use Public Keys for AUTHENTICATION ONLY – never for encryption. FCC regulations strictly prohibit the transmission of encrypted data.

Add Your Public Key Here
If you or your organization sign files sent via FLAMP and would like to have your public key included here, please follow the steps below.

Public Key Repository for Radio Traffic

  • This is for any station that sends or receives signed files, or might want to in the future.
  • These keys are posted here exactly as-received, just as they would be if uploaded to a Key Server. We do not attempt to do any verification of the Public Keys received.
  • You can add your call sign to your key without changing the actual key as follows:
    • Right click on your key, and select Details
    • Click Add email address
    • Click Advanced
    • Enter your call sign in the Comment field
    • Click OK
    • Note that if you try to add a second email address, Kleopatra will remove your name from the name field in order to make room for the added email address.
  • Public Key files should typically have a .asc file extension
  • Send public keys to stephenclaymcgehee@protonmail.com as an attachment
    • Public Key files may be wrapped in a .ZIP file if you prefer, but not necessary.
    • You can also send a link where your Public Key can be directly downloaded from your site, and we’ll post that link (link to the file only – not to a page).
  • To be included here, a key must include the owner’s call sign, or the name of a group or organization.
  • “Download” refers to a key file stored on our server
  • “Link” goes directly to a key file stored on the owner’s site.
  • Keys are listed in alphabetical order by call sign suffix (letters following the number)
